October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a month that recognizes contributions of workers with disabilities and promotes inclusive employment policies and practices. Established by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), NDEAM serves as a reminder that accessibility, equity, and inclusion strengthen both workplaces and communities.

This year’s NDEAM theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” highlights the skills, creativity, and perspectives that people with disabilities bring to every industry. When organizations foster inclusive environments through initiatives such as accessible hiring practices, workplace accommodations, and equitable leadership opportunities, they not only empower individuals but also enhance their own innovation and organizational resilience.

Ways that you can participate in NDEAM include:

  • Reviewing workplace accessibility and inclusion policies.

  • Hosting awareness events or discussion panels about disability employment.

  • Showcasing the achievements of employees and leaders with disabilities.

  • Partnering with advocacy groups to promote workforce participation for all.

  • Expanding the Conversation Globally

Beyond the United States, disability inclusion is increasingly recognized as a vital component of sustainable and equitable growth around the world. For example, within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), member economies have worked to advance these efforts through the Arequipa Goals on Disability Inclusion, adopted in 2024. These goals emphasize integrating persons with disabilities across all sectors of economic and social development, aligning with the broader APEC vision of an inclusive Asia-Pacific community.

As part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Together Towards Tomorrow (TTT) is proud to announce a blog series exploring the Arequipa Goals and their relevance to innovation and inclusive growth across the APEC economies.

Through this series, TTT aims to highlight how international policy commitments translate into real opportunities for people with disabilities. By connecting local action with global frameworks, we reaffirm that inclusion is not just a value, but a shared responsibility that drives progress for everyone.
